The third generation
If the first generation saw the arrival of the first Vachon, and the second was that of establishment in America, the third is that of expansion. It is to this generation that we owe our first expansion outside the Quebec City region. Noël, Paul's grandson, was the main cause.
For reasons difficult to explain, Noël left with his wife, Jeanne Bélanger, whom he had married in Beauport on January 16, 1719. Was it the call of adventure, the desire to open up new lands, as his grandfather had done before him, or simply the imperative need to support his family as well as possible that drew Noël to the Chaudière?
Around 1738, he settled in what would become Saint-Joseph de Beauce. It was Joseph de Fleury de la Gorgendière, then seigneur of the area, who recruited him to clear his land. Later, Noël built the flour mill mentioned in the 1739 census of the colony.
Noël had several children. Although some were unable to withstand the harshness of the country, many survived, and Noël saw thirteen of his children marry into the families of other arrivals like himself. This generation will bear the Vachon and Pomerleau names in new regions of the country, where they have left their own mark on our history.
