The sixth generation
The sixth generation can be dated between 1800 and 1875. According to our register, 239 marriages were recorded.
These marriages show that the Vachon and Pomerleau families spread to almost every major region of Quebec. The Beauce region still leads the way. In the Quebec City area, they are found mainly in Beauport, Charlesbourg, Lévis and Lauzon. In central Quebec, marriages are recorded in St-Hyacinthe, Shawinigan, Richmond and Lotbinière. On the outskirts of Montreal, they were found in Iberville, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Rigaud and Vaudreuil.
This period of the 19th century was relatively calm in Quebec society, despite the troubles of 1837 in the Richelieu region. Were any Vachons or Pomerleaus involved in these uprisings? We're calling on those of our own who live in the regions concerned to complete our history on the subject.
In any case, our ancestors were able to spread throughout the territory. But this migration is paving the way for an even bigger one, to the United States. We'll be talking about that in the next issue.
