Second generation
The history of the Vachon-Pomerleau family is marked by more than fifteen generations. In this article, we will focus on the second generation, namely the children of our ancestor Paul.
It was almost the case that the name Vachon quickly died out. Although Paul Vachon and his wife Marguerite Langlois had twelve children, very few have perpetuated the ancestor's name.
The daughters were given the names Marguerite, Louise, Madeleine, Anne-Thérèse, Marie-Madeleine, Françoise, and Charlotte. Except for Charlotte, whose trace was lost after 1681, the others married into local families, including the Duprac, Paillard, Giroux, Turgeon, Vallée, Binet and de L'Espinay families. Most of them had descendants bearing their husbands' surnames.
However, on the boys' side, the situation was different, Paul became a priest and was one of the first priests born on soil in New France. Guillaume, the youngest, died without descendants. As for Pierre, known as ‘’des Fourchettes’’, he had only one male descendant. Unfortunately, his lineage died out very quickly as it did not exceed beyond four generations. Only Vincent and Noël were able to perpetuate the name, but even then, it was close to ending there, as each of them had only one son. However, it was sufficient because the following generations gained strength, thus preserving the family name.
