The Bibliothèque nationale du Québec website features the work of Abbé Cyprien Tanguay (1819-1902), which is often the starting point for genealogical research. The 7 volumes of the "Dictionnaire généalogique des familles canadiennes depuis la fondation de la colonie jusqu'à nos jours", published between 1871 and 1890, are generally divided into five pdf (Acrobat) files, each averaging ten megs in size. Downloading these files therefore requires a high-speed connection or a good dose of patience. (669 pages)
