The fourth generation
The highlight of the fourth generation is the conquest of 1759-60. What impact did this have on the Vachon and Pomerleau families?

Already, in the fourth generation, nearly half of the marriages we counted took place in Beauce (10 out of 24). This region was little affected by the Conquest of 1759-60. On the other hand, with a few exceptions, the other marriages took place in Beauport and Charlesbourg. To conclude that the Vachons and their families were unaffected by the Conquest, since their lives seem undisturbed, would be a little simplistic.

While those in the Beauce region may have felt little impact from the war, those in the Quebec City area must have suffered a great deal. Let's not forget that one of the main battles of the war took place on the heights of Charlesbourg, and that it was in this region that most of the Vachons were established. Like their contemporaries, they had to see their crops and farms burned, and had to take an active part in battles. Let's not forget that settlers were also militiamen in wartime.

Unfortunately, we have little information on this subject. This is an avenue for further research. If one of us were to agree to look into it, it would enrich a new part of our family history.
